How it works

This tool scans your text for words and phrases that appear multiple times within a configurable proximity window, then highlights them so you can decide where to vary your vocabulary.

  • Proximity window — the number of words around each occurrence to check for repetitions. A smaller window catches only very close repeats; a larger window flags words reused across several sentences or a full paragraph.
  • Min word length — filters out common short words (articles, prepositions) so the analysis focuses on content words that matter for vocabulary variety.
  • Highlight levels — words repeated twice nearby are shown in orange; three times in red; four or more in purple. This helps you prioritize the most noticeable repetitions.
  • Phrase detection — the tool also identifies repeated two-word phrases (bigrams) within proximity, catching formulaic patterns like "in order" or "the fact" that may signal redundancy.

A repetition density under 5% is typical of well-varied prose; 5–10% suggests moderate repetition; above 10% may benefit from synonym substitution or sentence restructuring. All analysis runs entirely in your browser.
